Oceans & Cables welcomes German Energy Delegation to Discuss Malta’s Energy Future.
Oceans & Cables was pleased to participate in a German project exploration mission to Malta focused on the country’s evolving energy landscape and the opportunities emerging across offshore energy, interconnectors, energy storage and supporting infrastructure.
The initiative was organised by the German-Italian Chamber of Commerce (AHK Italien) / DEinternational Italia on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), as part of the German Energy Solutions Initiative, in cooperation with The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry.
The programme brought together German companies specialising in energy and infrastructure with Maltese stakeholders to exchange knowledge, gain first-hand insight into the local market and explore potential areas for future cooperation.
Exploring Malta’s Energy Transition
As Malta works towards greater energy security and decarbonisation, investment in interconnectors, offshore renewable energy, battery energy storage systems and related infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. The German delegation visited Malta to explore these developments and better understand the technical, commercial and infrastructural opportunities associated with the country’s energy transition.
Oceans & Cables participated in the Executive Business Roundtable held at the Malta Life Sciences Park, which brought together representatives from across Malta’s energy ecosystem, including policymakers, regulators, infrastructure developers and private-sector experts.
Discussions focused on Malta’s future energy requirements and the infrastructure and expertise needed to support the next generation of energy projects.
Bilateral Meeting at Oceans & Cables
Following the wider roundtable discussions, Oceans & Cables also welcomed members of the German delegation to its offices for a dedicated technical and business exchange. The meeting provided an opportunity for Oceans & Cables to present its activities and expertise in submarine cable infrastructure and marine engineering, while discussing developments relevant to Malta and the wider Mediterranean region. Particular attention was given to subsea cable infrastructure, interconnector projects, offshore energy developments and the associated engineering requirements involved in delivering complex marine infrastructure.
The discussion also explored the potential for cooperation between Maltese and German organisations, bringing together complementary expertise across cable engineering, offshore operations, transmission infrastructure, energy storage, maritime services and renewable energy.
Participating companies represented a broad spectrum of capabilities relevant to the energy transition, including offshore and onshore cable engineering, interconnectors and transmission grids, offshore wind logistics and maritime services, energy networks, infrastructure digitalisation, and wind energy testing and measurement.
Subsea Infrastructure and the Energy Transition
For Oceans & Cables, the discussions closely reflect the company’s growing involvement in the offshore energy sector. Submarine cables are increasingly important not only for global telecommunications but also for the development of modern energy infrastructure. Interconnectors, offshore renewable energy projects and other marine energy developments depend on carefully planned and engineered subsea cable systems, supported by specialist expertise throughout their lifecycle.
With experience in submarine cable consultancy, engineering and marine infrastructure, Oceans & Cables continues to apply its expertise to both telecommunications and offshore energy projects. Malta’s strategic position in the Mediterranean also creates an interesting environment for future energy and infrastructure development.
Building Connections Between Malta and Germany
The German project exploration mission demonstrated the importance of bringing together organisations with different but complementary areas of expertise. For Oceans & Cables, this meeting provided a valuable opportunity to exchange perspectives with German companies active across the energy and infrastructure sectors, discuss current market requirements and identify areas where technical expertise and international cooperation may support future projects.
Oceans & Cables thanks the German-Italian Chamber of Commerce (AHK Italien), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and The Malta Chamber for facilitating the initiative and creating a platform for meaningful dialogue between German and Maltese stakeholders.
